Flipped Classrooms - a brief overview

The Khan Academy has caused students, teachers and parents to look at how teaching and learning occurs. When Salman Khan started making Maths videos for his cousin on the other side of the US , he probably had no idea of the Learning Revolution he was starting. Making a video on a Maths concept, posting it online so that it can be seen by 1 or 1000 students, and can be rewound and stopped
so that learners can really grasp the topic seems so obvious  as a learning tool now.
See his TED talks on this.
"with over 1 million unique students per month, the most-used educational video repository on the Internet (over 30 million lessons delivered to-date).  All 2000+ video tutorials, are made by Khan"

So how does this fit in with the idea of Flipped classrooms?
What is a Flipped classroom?
